English as she is spoke

Asad "Adenoids" Ahmad, reading the London news on this morning's BBC Breakfast,

A national action plan to tackle child abuse through witchcraft is being launched today...

Well, I'm all for radical solutions if they're effective. Or does that sentence not mean what it appears to mean?

Ah! Parsing is such sweet sorrow.

Comments:
Child abuse is wrong. Child abuse through cultures that use witchcraft is very bad. Child abuse through cults that follow a pedo is incredibly bad, though apparently af less urgent issue even though there are more of those than there are of the witchcraft-followers.

Still, more important to sort out the minor problems than the major, hey?

Heh!

'A national action plan to tackle child abuse through witchcraft is being launched today...'

A 'national plan' to contain and alleviate the problem would be simple, and would entail denying permanent residence rights to anyone in the UK hailing from a country where such witchcraft is common, and removing them when they are convicted of engaging in this loathsome activity. Can't see much likelihood of such a plan being adaopted though...

However a 'national plan' whose aim is the creation of conferences, to be attended by sinecure holders who 'discuss strategies' for 'addressing the issues' ad nauseum, is pretty much odds-on.
